✿ a service project at Austin Community College

One stitch at a time, for the tiniest fighters in the NICU.

NICU Knits is a student-led service project at Austin Community College. We meet weekly to crochet and knit preemie blankets, then donate them through Knots of Love to babies in NICUs across the country, and to the families who take them home.

a note from the founder ♥

Why I started NICU Knits.

I'm studying healthcare to become a nurse, because I believe healing is the antidote to suffering. NICU Knits is a small act with a wide reach. Every blanket we finish goes home with a family whose baby spent their first days in the NICU.

Crocheting and knitting take time, care, and patience. That's the point. NICU Knits is built on service, responsibility, and dignity, and on showing up consistently, week after week, even if it's just two of us in the room.

how it works

From yarn to NICU.

01

meet weekly

We meet once a week to work on preemie blankets together. Members commit to at least one meeting a month so we keep making real progress.

02

make with care

Following the protocol from our partner Knots of Love (approved yarns, sizing, washing) we crochet and knit blankets soft enough for the most fragile NICU babies.

03

ship monthly

At the last meeting of every month we pack and ship our finished blankets off to be delivered to NICUs all across the country.

come join!!
